Deep Freeze Demo Now Available!

A lot of hard work and love went into this game so far, and I really do hope you guys all enjoy it.  We’ve changed a LOT of things since 0.0.5k, which was the version that was used for the demo.

We have teased with lots of pics and a couple of videos, but nothing final until now.  All of the feedback we got way back when, as well as some extras we’ve added over time has been compiled into this.  Placing objects anywhere, a whopping 32 levels so far, new tiles, new hazards… It’s all there, and there’s plenty more to come.

Make sure you read the readme before playing - information will be stored there as well, and most questions should be answered by reading there.

Important News Regarding Deep Freeze and an Update on the Demo!

This post is being reposted on all accounts - on my twitter, on the game’s (and dev team’s) twitter, on tumblr and even facebook.  It’s extremely important I get this out for all of those following the development of this game as it may very well impact how you play the game.  For the better, of course.

Due to several issues with piracy, we’re going to be taking the initiative and do what many major game publishers do to protect their product.  We will be implementing DRM.  It’s going to be revolutionary, and in no way shape or form will it actually cause any problems at all.  For anyone.

We’re going to follow in the footsteps of EA, because of their immaculate track record for securing people’s purchases, ensuring no one can access it.  At least, no one that is supposed to be touching it.  Also, due to some issues with being able to optimize high-priority calculations such as the angle at which certain objects are to be moving, we’re going to transfer all data to our server.  Even on 56k, you will have an incredibly smooth and lag-free experience.  Even with a single computer - our primary development and virus-sandbox PC will be capable of handling any and all requests.

When the game is done, you will be able to download it - no need to download beforehand.  Don’t worry!  We will handle all of the requests fine.  And issues can be emailed to us at an email that will be disclosed at the time of final release.

Understand that we are deeply concerned about giving people what they pay for, and therefore to prevent additional issues, we’ll ensure that the game will know when you install it, and on what machine.  That way anywhere you go with it, it will work fine.  Even your desktop machine!  Bulk licenses are not available at this time so be sure you choose the right machine you wish to use the game on.  Ensure it’s upgraded to it’s fullest potential as while we’re working out the kinks, any change of CPU, Motherboard, video card, RAM and USB keyboard and/or mouse may also trigger a lockdown until you call us to manually re-activate your game.  NOTE: this will require the purchase of a one-time use license for our remote access software.  Service using other current remote desktop products is not supported at this time.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

We are dedicated to ensuring no one wrongfully uses your software!  An additional system requirement is that you have at least a 5 megapixel HD webcam equipped to your computer at all times so we may verify you are using the product.  If you are unable to satisfy this, we offer a subscription-based manual verification service - however you must have a free room available in your house, permission from the owner/landlord and sufficient food and living conditions for us to do this.

We understand some people might not like this, but we urge you to keep this game in mind and give it a chance.  We’re positive that regardless of what others may say, or want to have included into this game, we’re going to make this game how we feel it should be.  We know you will like it, and urge you not to worry about our choices - you’ll be able to enjoy it.  We will be releasing some DLC as well to extend your game, probably a day after release, so keep an eye out!  Plenty of fun extensions and levels will be available for purchase.

We will have a community open soon as well.  You’ll be able to enjoy many features, linking your games to the accounts.  To ensure proper punishment, all infractions will be linked to all single and multiplayer games and modes, so if you are harassed by another, please report them!  We will ban them without delay, and remove their privilege to play our games.

Again, we thank you for reading this, and we hope you enjoy our product.  We also hope that this heartfelt letter proves that we’re out to make games like Mass Effect, and Battlefield, while letting anyone play it, and NOT only here to make money off of you!  :)

Last but not least, I’d like to wish you all a heartfelt April Fools!  Here’s to the indie game scene getting ever larger, and all the game studios like EA being brought down… at least several pegs.  It would be nice to buy games that you actually OWN…

On a more serious note, there were a couple of snags getting the demo out on time. We’ll aim to get it out later today, if not tomorrow! Those waiting on physical discs might have to wait a couple more days, though, sadly. …And that’s not an April Fool’s Joke, I’m afraid.

Dedication. Let me tell you.

I can’t speak for everyone and hell - I won’t.  I’m not the go-to guy on advice because well.. I’ve had my own stumbles here and there.  I can’t say I’m the most dedicated person over anything but I felt I needed to write.

You want to do something - that’s awesome.  You probably don’t actually want to do it.  Yeah, you heard me.  You probably don’t ACTUALLY want to do it.  You just want it DONE.  But to actually sit down (or stand up) and do what it takes to get there?  Nah, screw that.  You don’t want to.

If you want to do something, you’ll set aside time for it.  Whether that’s a few minutes, a couple days, or something like that.  And even then you won’t REALLY want to do it.

If you truly, honestly want to do something, you’ll obsess over it.  If you’re passionate about it, and want to not only get something done, but actually take pride in the process of getting it done, then you won’t set aside a few days a week.  You’ll dedicate every moment you can.  You’ll put it before your life, not after.  That’s dedication.

All you kids and your wonderful fangames, or even your own original stuff.  No, you don’t want to make a game.  Otherwise there won’t be tons of cancelled projects.  You want it done?  You’ll work for it.  You get a set back?  Yeah, just a minor trip that you’re getting pass.  It won’t be cancelled.  No matter what.  That’s dedication.

Some call it stubbornness.  Some might feel you don’t know when to quit.  You do want to do whatever it is though, right?  So do it.  Screw what others say.

What’s that?  It’s pointless?  Says who?  Screw ‘em.  You don’t need them.  And if it seems that you have to do it alone?  Do it.  prove them wrong.

…Of course, as much as this might be the case, you still wanna work in a way that doesn’t completely destroy your life.  Sure, you might want to put your project BEFORE your life, but if you do that TOO often, you might be incapable of doing it.  It’s an odd contradiction, life.  You have your dedication, and then you have your life to get in the way.  Sometimes you have to contradict yourself.  Sometimes you have to contradict those contradictions.  It’s simple, really.

Just a random bit of rambling here.  Figured I’ll post some random personal bits here and there on the off chance someone finds it interesting.
